The History of Caterham United Reformed Church

In 2019 Ray Howgego published a 53-page illustrated book covering the history of Caterham Congregationalism from 1863 to 1923, together with notes on other local Congregational churches, most of which have since disappeared. Also included is an Appendix giving details of the partial destruction of the church in 1944.

The book was issued free of charge in 2019 to all registered church member families and was deposited in local and national libraries, and for sale in the East Surrey Museum. This first edition rapidly sold out, so a second edition, with minor corrections, was printed in 100 copies in March 2025 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary celebrations. Copies of this edition are currently available for a cost of £5.

Because of its unpredictability, and to make its content available to search engines, the book is offered here as a free download. Please appreciate that the author's copyright is maintained and that permission must be sought for use of its text and images.
